“Black” is the debut single from Renee Mooi — a dark, raw song about something invasive taking hold, a transformation that isn’t entirely welcome. The lyric video had to live inside that feeling: shadowy, tactile, unsettling, with a visual world that mirrors the song’s themes of inner conflict and unwanted change.

The visual approach combined highly reflective 3D surfaces and organic textures rendered in Cinema 4D — dark materials that catch and distort light — with character rigs and a spider as the central metaphor. The aesthetic mixes the graphic weight of a horror-inflected illustrated novel with the precision of 3D rendering: black, glossy, and slightly wrong.

The challenge was balancing the abstraction the song demanded with the clarity a lyric video needs to carry text. The result is a world that feels like it’s slowly being consumed — matching the song’s own momentum from controlled unease to full transformation.
