Child Digital Safety — El Ciber
Client: Secretaría de Cultura de la Ciudad de México · Year: 2021 · Role: Director / Character Animator / Rigger
Tools: Maya · Moho · After Effects · Produced by Promotores Culturales CDMX
El Ciber is an animated series produced by the Cultural Community Promoters Program of Mexico City, designed to teach digital safety to children and young people through an accessible, street-smart visual language. The project spans five episodes covering topics like online privacy, phishing, gaming safety, and social media influence — told through a cast of original characters living in Ciudad Monstruo.
The animation pipeline combined 2D character rigs built in Moho with Maya-rendered 3D environments — a hybrid approach that gave the characters maximum expressiveness while keeping production agile. The rigs were built with an urban, exaggerated aesthetic in mind: loose, full of personality, and designed to work in three-dimensional space by mapping 2D textures onto 3D Maya geometry. Character design, rigging, scene composition, and animation direction were all part of the scope.
This was one of the most creatively freeing projects in the portfolio. The brief called for a barrio visual language — which meant leaning into bold design choices, strong silhouettes, and a storytelling voice that kids from CDMX would immediately recognize as their own.
